Equipment

  • 1 2 quart capacity electric ice cream machine
  • 1 large bowl
  • measuring cups and spoons, spoon, etc
  • rolling pin or something to crush oreos with

Ingredients

  • 3 C half and half
  • 1 1/3 C granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 C whipping cream I don't like to use heavy, just regular
  • dash vanilla extract
  • 1 C crushed gluten free mint oreos or regular oreos

Instructions

  • Gather your ice cream maker. Crush the Oreos and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, pour half and half and sugar. Mix well. This is important! You want all the sugar to be dissolved into the half and half.
  • Add the whipping cream and stir. Add vanilla. Stir.
  • CAREFULLY pour this liquid into the ice cream maker pan. Then place it in your ice cream maker and push start. Mine counts down from 60 minutes.
  • After 10 minutes time, pause the machine and add the crushed Oreos. Push start again. Let ice cream maker continue until the time is out or your machine starts to sound really slow. Mine usually takes about 50-55 minutes total.
  • Immediately scrape out the ice cream into a container for freezing. Let finish hard freezing for at least 2 hours if desired. We often eat it right away, but it is very soft when it is first done and melts quickly! It will harden up really well if you put it in the freezer for a couple hours. Take out of freezer about 15 minutes before serving.
