I have been making homemade pizza forever I think. It is something I have always loved to do. So when we had our celiac disease diagnosis, that was one of the recipes that I didn’t need to alter. The problem was the dough. And still is in my book. Finding an easy dough recipe that tastes good to my kids hasn’t happened yet for us, but we have discovered the Utah Food and Meat Co-op. This has been a huge blessing to our family to have joined this co-op.
I love that we get to support our local farmers, get fresher food, and often get awesome prices on gluten free food! One of our favorite finds that we order from the Co-op is the gluten free pizza crust. This is a LIFE SAVER on those busy nights when your family is lucky to eat dinner at all, let alone a balanced meal.
Their pizza crust comes frozen in a pack of 12. When I get them home, I separate them into pairs, wrap them well in plastic wrap, then aluminum foil, and put them back in the freezer. Then when Friday night rolls around and I’m tired from the work week, I know I can have dinner on the table in a jiffy.
Making this sauce takes about 5 minutes prep and 5-7 minutes to cook. It makes enough sauce for at least 6 pizzas. I like to keep some in my fridge and also in the freezer, so I often double this recipe.
Homemade Pizza Sauce
Equipment
- 1 pan
- 1 garlic press
Ingredients
- 1 15 oz can Muir Glen Tomato Sauce
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1 TBSP basil, dried
- 1 tsp oregano
- 2-3 cloves garlic, minced having a garlic press make this step fast
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- Dash sea salt I use Anasazi Salt
Instructions
- In a small sauce pan, put all the ingredients. Mix and bring to a boil. Turn heat down and simmer for about 2-5 minutes.
- This sauce makes enough for at least 6 10 inch pizzas. Our favorite pizza crusts are purchased frozen from the Utah Food and Meat Co-op. Simply spread the sauce around the pizza crust.
- Top with your favorite toppings. For our kids, they love just plain cheese or cheese and pepperoni. I always top my pizza with just a bit of fresh grated parmesan cheese.
- Bake at 425 degrees for 10 minutes on parchment paper on a sheet pan or pizza stone(my favorite) and then slide the parchment paper with the pizza off onto the oven rack. Continue to bake until the cheese is melted and the crust is lightly browned.
