If you love baking, then you probably have some silicone molds sitting around your kitchen right? And don’t you need an excuse to buy one more? This recipe for Chocolate Candy Canes uses a candy cane shaped silicone mold. But really you could take this recipe and use any mold you want and still do this recipe. Small squares or circles would also be fun and festive for any Christmas treat.
This is a great one to let kids help with too. They will LOVE smashing the candy canes into pieces. This takes a bit of work since candy canes are a hard candy, so your kids should have a great time. And to be honest, I find it totally therapeutic to smash candy canes!
Chocolate Candy Canes
Equipment
- 2 candy cane silicone molds
- rolling pin
- spoons, spatula, bowls
- 2 gallon sized zip baggie I use two bags together when smashing the candy canes
Ingredients
- 1/2 bag Guittard milk chocolate chips
- 1/2 bag Guittard white chocolate chips
- 1 tsp refined coconut oil, divided use 1/2 tsp in each bowl of milk & white chocolate chips to help thin the chocolate
- 1/2 C smashed peppermint candy canes
Instructions
- Place two candy cane shaped silicone molds onto a baking tray.
- Placing two gallon sized zip baggies together, add about 6 candy canes and then smash them using a rolling pin. These candies can rip the plastic baggie, so watch if you need to get a new baggies to continue smashing.
- Once your pieces are finely smashed, sprinkle some into the candy cane shaped molds.
- In two separate bowls, melt the milk and white chocolate chips- each with 1/2 tsp of refined coconut oil. I like to melt them in the microwave. Make sure you don't over heat the chocolate because it can burn. And white chocolate is very finicky. You will need to stir/smash it regularly to make sure it doesn't burn. Add more coconut oil as needed.
- Once the white chocolate and milk chocolate mixtures are ready, gently spoon them into the silicone molds like the milk chocolate one shown. Place molds in freezer for about 15 minutes.
- Making sure that the chocolate candy cane candies are completely set, gently remove them from the silicone mold. They are ready to eat! You can also store these in the fridge in an airtight container.
Chocolate candy canes are an easy way to create a homemade candy without a lot of effort or having to use a candy thermometer. I hope that you will enjoy making these or even better making them and giving some away to bring cheer this holiday season.
Merry Christmas!
