Equipment

  • 1 large pot with a lid
  • spoon, measuring cups/spoons

Ingredients

  • 1 TBSP olive oil
  • 3/4 C chopped mushrooms, sautéed
  • 4 15 oz cans Muir Glen Tomato Sauce
  • 2 cans Muir Glen Tomato Paste
  • 1/4 C water
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp basil
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1 C fresh spinach

Instructions

  • In a large pot, on medium heat, add olive oil. When it comes to temperature, add mushrooms and sauté. Then add the rest of the ingredients.
  • Stir all together, and bring to a boil. Then turn heat down to low, and let simmer for 10 minutes with the lid on. This sauce will get hot and bubble, so be careful when you take the lid off to stir.
  • After the 10 minutes, blend the sauce using an immersion blender.
  • Serve with gluten free pasta- we like Barilla gf pasta. Some of my kids like meat, others don't. When I'm in a hurry, it's just ground beef, other times, I'll make some yummy meatballs.:). This sauce also works great with chicken parmesan.

Notes

You could sauté carrots to achieve a "sweeter" sauce.  My husband is allergic to some veggies, like carrots, so we don't use them.  But my Dad, who lived in Italy for 2 years, always puts shredded carrots in his spaghetti sauce, and I love it!
