Homemade gluten free cheese dip in a small black crockpot

Cheese Dip

This delicious and EASY cheese dip is perfect for my homemade pretzels that you can find in the notes section of Emma’s Gluten Free Loaf Bread recipe. My gluten free loaf bread recipe works easily to make rolls, hamburger buns, and pretzel bites out of the same dough!

But back to this cheese sauce…

It is just a few simple ingredients and comes together in under 15 minutes. One key step is to make sure you mix your shredded cheeses with the cornstarch. If you forget this step and add your cheese and cornstarch separately, your cheese will turn grainy instead of melting smoothly. So make sure you mix the cornstarch and cheese! My favorite brand of cornstarch is Anthony’s.

My favorite hot sauce by far is De La Viuda. I can find it at my local Pirate O’s store, but you can also get it on Amazon!

Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 1 C chicken stock
  • 2 TBSP cornstarch
  • 1 1/2 C sharp white cheddar cheese
  • 1 C medium cheddar cheese
  • 1 tsp hot sauce I love De La Viuda

  • 1 cheese grater
  • measuring cups and spoons
  • spoon and ladle

Method

  1. In a small sauce pan, add chicken stock and bring to a simmer.
  2. Grate cheeses and place in a medium/large bowl. Add the cornstarch and mix it well into the shredded cheeses.
  3. Once the chicken stock has come to a simmer, SLOWLY add handfuls of the cheese/cornstarch mixture. Make sure you still well and constantly when adding the cheese. Wait until one handful is fully melted before adding the next handful of cheese/cornstarch mixture.
  4. When all the cheese/cornstarch mixture has been added, and this should only take a few minutes, then add your hot sauce and seasonings to taste.
  5. Serve immediately or keep warm in a small crock pot if serving with a nacho or pretzel bar.
  6. Store leftovers in the fridge.

This Cheese Dip recipe is super easy to make! And it makes you feel better about feeding this to your family rather than the stuff in containers at the store. Simple ingredients, quick and easy.
